| Geographic Information System computer technology is a new way to interact with information. Data, text, drawings, amps and images all convey information concerning environmental management issues in relation to regulatory requirements. These information elements can be accessed and used intuitively through drawings containing graphical objects that describe facilities to which they apply (emission stacks, sampling locations, buildings, rooms, sites, etc). This text addresses the concepts of: intelligent drawings as the basis for this interaction; structured evolution from today's systems to an environmental facility management operating style that uses GIS technology; and systems integration to bring corporate information to scientists as well as engineers. |
