Timber frames can be designed to be the supporting structure for an entire house, or they can work very well and economically if it constructed in combination with conventional building methods. For extremely restricted budgets, reducing the use of timber frames to the construction of roof trusses and exposed purlins for a room in the roof construction is an excellent compromise in terms of cost, with the style and feel of framing remaining an important and highly visible part of the building. Alternatively, very small touches of timber frame work, like a glazed structural panel or a single exposed cross-frame for example, can be incorporated in order to give the flourish or feel of timber frame but at a very reasonable cost.
