Lytag has been manufacturing lightweight aggregate for over 40 years and has made in excess of 16 million tonnes of material. Lytag is produced to an ISO 9001 quality system. The UK Lytag factory is based at Eggborough, East Yorkshire, and there are other plants in Europe. The raw material used in the manufacture of Lytag lightweight aggregate is pulverised fuel ash (pfa), which is a bi-product of coal fired power stations. The World Commission on the Environment has given a number of recommended critical actions needed to ensure a good quality of life for people around the world. Lytag, being manufactured from a bi-product material, reduces the consumption of precious landfill space, along with reducing demands on natural, finite resources.
